Pre Cal: If you could which of the 7 steps of graphing trig functions would you exclude?

If you could which of the 7 steps of graphing trig functions would you exclude? Why?

  1. If I could eliminate any of the seven steps of graphing a trig function I would eliminate the fourth step of finding te critical points. I would eliminate this step because you have to graph the points depending on whether the equation is sine or cosine. This can become confusing at times trying to differ its snake like form or cup form. That part is just confusing but everything besides that is okay. Taylor Cromwell(7th period)

    If there was one step that I could eliminate in graphing a trigonometry function it would be step six. Step six simply states that you must find a new set of crucial points. Step six is basically a repetition of step four in which you find the maximums, minimums, negatives and positives. I personally really don't see the need for find another set of crucial points.

If I could eliminate any of the 7 steps of graphing trig functions I would eliminate step number 5 Determining the Phase Shift.A phase shift represents the amount a wave has shifted horizontally from the original wave.This step seems kind of pointless because you can look at the graphing and determine what type of shift it is. You can also look at the problem to see if it shifts left or right on the horizontal or vertical plane. (Kadija Bell)

    If I could exclude any of the seven steps it would be Step 7. I believe that step 7 is only there to make the problem more complicated than it needs to be. There is no need for the graph to have a vertical shift. We need only to graph the function with the new vertical points(step 6) and not have to worry about shifting upwards.

  5. If i could eliminate or exclude any of the following 7 steps of graphing trig functions it would most definitely be steps 5 and 7. I think that step 5 (phase shift) makes the whole problem more complicated with all the opposite sign thingy. Its unnecessary because if you elimate it theres no need for step 6. Step 7 (vertical shift) is slick confusing because it makes you move the whole graph either up or down. Bad enough graphing the function is already hard and adding step 7 just throws everything off.

  6. If i could eliminate one of the 7 steps it would be the 4th step. I would eliminate this step because once you determine theyour increments you already know that there is going to be a new graph. Once you find the increments you no longer have the parent function of sine, cosine or tangent, but a function relative to the parent function.I think that this is an unnecessary step. It should only used for extra precaution.

  7. If I could exclude one of the 7 steps to graphing trig functions, it would be step 6. I say step 6, because its just new critical points, its basically just showing the difference between the two. Step 6 to me is considered irrelavent. It really has no purpose, because its repeating the previous points in step 4. The 7 steps should really just stop at 5, there's no need for 6 and 7. In other words, thats my opinion so yeah.

  9. If I had too exclude any step during the 7 step process. I would exclude step number 7 the vertical shift because when your graphing the equation, and you forget too do your vertical shift, it throws the entire problem off. Its really unnecessary too me and causes the graphing part of the 7 steps too graphing the 6 trig functions extremely difficult.

  10. If I had to exclude any steps, I would exclude the horizontal shift/new critical points. Finding and graphing the parent function is as simple, yet as complicated as it needs to be. However, if you find the amplitude, period, and increments, what's the point of graphing the shifts. We should just be able to look at the equation and and answer the question and go from there. I tend to get confused with all the different shifts and new points and all the other confusion that normally goes on after you finish the first three steps!

  11. If I was able to eliminate one of the steps for graphing I would get rid of steps 5-7. The graphing process makes the entire problem harder. Finding the points on the graph is the harder part and it gets very confusing. I see no point of graphing the trig functions. We should just be able to do steps 1-4, and tell the amp, period, and increment.

  14. If I had to exclude any of the seven steps of graphing a trig function it would be step 6 and 7. I would remove step 6 because finding new critical points is pointless to me to do after you found the phase shift in step 5. I would also eliminate step 7 because finding a new axis after you are almost done with the problem is confusing to me.

  15. If I had the chance to exclude any steps form the 7 step process of graphing a trig. function it would be step 4. This step is almost the same as step 6, so step 6 takes the place of step 4, because the function is graghed based on the equation and the new critical points.

  16. If there was one step that I could eliminate in graphing a trigonometry function it would be step six. Step six Is just finding the new critical point. If you have to graph something the points are automatically changed.Just having what you already know to upt down for too weeks.

I feel that there is no need for the graph to have a vertical shift. Graphing it makes it more difficult to me. The shift is not needed.

  18. If I had the chance to exclude any step in graphing trig functions, I would exclude step 7 which is vertical shift. A vertical shift is a shift up or down on the y axis. This step can cause confusion and has no real significance on the graph and you can still get all the important information from the graph (amp,per,inc,c.p, and phase shift) without vertical shifts.

I believe without step 7, you would still successfully be able to graph any trig function.

  27. If i could eliminate any of the 7 steps of graphing trig functions I would eliminate step 7. I would eliminate this step because when using this step you have to tell whether if the graph goes up or down. And while trying to find if the graph goes up or down, its very difficult and confusing.
